Do you remember that moment? The moment you realized life was slipping by in years, not days. I do.
I was in Target. My daughter, the consummate actress, was delivering an academy award worthy tantrum. My other toddler was denouncing me for making his sister cry. To my dismay, this took place next to the “Perfect Mother.” You know her. Her makeup is flawless, her clothes fashionable, her jewelry enviable. Her well mannered, fresh faced children sit strapped in the cart with their shoes on and their clothes stain free. She stands in judgment demonstrating disapproval with every fiber of her being.
At that moment, I realized I had a choice. I could yell at my kids out of embarrassment. I could reach for the bottle of wine on the shelf. Or, I could laugh knowing that it would end in 10 seconds. In 10 minutes, her day would likely deteriorate just like mine. In 10 days, I’d toast the tantrum at girl’s night out. In 10 years, I’d laugh at the fit of all fits with my kids.
From that moment forward, I decided to laugh. Laugh at tantrums, piles of laundry, stacks of bills, and the never ending to do list as the family C.E.O. and my hubby’s personal assistant. I also realized that I wanted to remind every woman she is not alone, that every stage should be relished and that there is no perfect girl, woman, wife or mother. I wanted to make others laugh And so, Wear It Out Loud was born.
